The evening tour covers City Palace (a living fusion of Rajput and Mughal architecture), Jantar Mantar (an 18th-century astronomical observatory that still works), and the iconic Hawa Mahal five stories of pink sandstone honeycombed with 953 windows designed so royal women could watch street processions unseen.

Amber Fort sits on a ridge above Jaipur, and the best way to reach it is by elephant slow, regal, and unexpectedly calming. Jaipur to Pushkar

Pushkar sits in a natural bowl surrounded by the Aravalli Hills, about two hours from Jaipur. It is one of India's holiest towns and home to the world's only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma. During the Camel ride, the valley comes alive with thousands of camels, folk musicians, and traders from across Rajasthan. Even outside the fair season, the ghats surrounding the sacred lake and the labyrinthine bazaars offer a completely different kind of experience. Overnight stay in Pushkar.

Pushkar to Udaipur

Drive to Udaipur the "City of Lakes" through desert landscapes that slowly give way to the Mewar hills. Check into your hotel and spend the evening at leisure. If time allows, a stroll along the Pichola Lake waterfront at dusk is a good introduction to one of India's most romantic cities.
